Released initially in late 2023 and gaining massive popularity upon its 2024 Steam release, the game brilliantly remixes the infamous game of Russian Roulette into a tense, strategic affair by replacing the traditional revolver with a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun and adding layers of consumable items.

The Grimy Setup: Adversary and Atmosphere

The game places the player in a dilapidated room in an underground nightclub, facing a mysterious, unsettling entity known only as The Dealer. This entity, with its jagged teeth and strange, distorted face, serves as the opponent in a three-round, winner-take-all gamble. The low-poly graphics, muffled electronic rave music bleeding from the walls, and the cold, analog tech create an atmosphere of sinister tension and palpable dread.

Before the game begins, the player signs a General Release of Liability waiver, a chilling introduction that hints at the game's dark, abstract lore, which suggests that even the highest metaphysical powers have lost to The Dealer.

Core Gameplay: Strategy Meets Probability

Each round of Buckshot Roulette begins with The Dealer loading the shotgun with a random, specified number of red (live) shells and blue (blank) shells, revealing the total counts to the players. The core mechanic is a delicate balance of probability and risk:

• The Choice: On their turn, the player must choose to either shoot The Dealer or themselves.

  • Live Shell: If the shot is live, the target loses one life (represented by defibrillator charges). The turn is forfeited.

  • Blank Shell (on self): If the player shoots themselves with a blank, they are safe and get to take another turn immediately, often a massive tactical advantage.

  • Blank Shell (on Dealer): If the player shoots a blank at the Dealer, the turn ends, and the Dealer takes their turn.

The twist is that the players must keep track of the shell sequence in their mind, as the game offers minimal UI to show the current odds.

Item Mechanics: Shifting the Odds

Starting in Round 2, the game introduces a variety of consumable items that drastically deepen the strategic layer:

• Magnifying Glass: Allows the player to view the current shell in the chamber.

• Hand Saw: Doubles the damage of the next live shell.

• Handcuffs: Skips the opponent’s next turn.

• Beer: Ejects the current shell and passes the turn.

• Cigarettes: Restores one life (defibrillator charge).

Utilizing these items effectively requires calculating the probability of the remaining shells and manipulating the turn order to maximize damage to The Dealer or gain extra turns.

Success in the primary game mode unlocks "Double or Nothing," a challenging endless mode that ramps up the randomness and item distribution for the ultimate high-stakes gamble.
