The cold, unforgiving rain of the Fallenwood hammered against the rough canvas of Aric’s makeshift lean-to. He hadn't seen the sun in three days, and his inventory—represented entirely by the hand of cards he held—was dwindling rapidly.
Card Survival: Fantasy Forest is a brutal, rogue-like simulation where every action, item, and danger is represented by a unique card. The game’s grim beauty lies in the intricate chain reactions required to stave off starvation, injury, and the creeping despair of the magical wilderness.
Aric was currently facing a critical Weather: Heavy Rain card, which blocked his ability to use Action: Gather Firewood and severely debuffed the effectiveness of his meager Item: Tattered Cloak. His immediate goal: survive the night.
His Current Hand:
-
Resource: Dried Rations (x1) – Basic sustenance, one day’s supply.
-
Condition: Mild Exhaustion – Reduces success chance on complex actions.
-
Tool: Dull Hunting Knife – Versatile but prone to breaking.
-
Threat: Howling Timberwolf – Dangerous predator, requires specific action cards to defeat or evade.
Aric knew he couldn't fight the Timberwolf in his current state. He needed to use the environment cards to his advantage.
He selected the Dull Hunting Knife and played it against the Location: Thorngrowth Thicket card. Success. The knife allowed him to gain Item: Durable Vine (x1) and Item: Sharp Thorns (x3). However, the action played into his Condition: Mild Exhaustion, upgrading it to Condition: Severe Exhaustion.
The Timberwolf card advanced. A low growl icon appeared over his hand.
Aric combined the Durable Vine and the Sharp Thorns with the Action: Craft Trap card. The Severe Exhaustion reduced his chance of success to 40%. He held his breath and played the cards.
Outcome: Success with Complication.
He gained Item: Primitive Snare. The complication: the sheer effort of crafting caused him to suffer Injury: Deep Gash on his arm. Now he had two pressing issues: the wolf and the bleeding.
The Timberwolf card advanced again, now showing an Imminent Attack marker.
Aric quickly played the newly crafted Primitive Snare against the Timberwolf.
Outcome: Capture Success. The Timberwolf card was replaced with Condition: Confined Timberwolf, giving Aric a temporary reprieve and a potential food source.
Now for the injury. He had no Herb: Healing cards. He had to improvise.
He played Dull Hunting Knife against his Tattered Cloak to shred it, gaining Resource: Ripped Cloth (x2). He then combined the Ripped Cloth with the Action: Boil Water (playing Resource: Last of the Rainwater into the process). Finally, he combined the Sterilized Cloth with the Injury: Deep Gash card.
Outcome: Wound Stabilized. He discarded the Deep Gash card, but gained the lingering Condition: Reduced Mobility.
A tired, bleeding Aric watched the last sliver of his Dried Rations card vanish. He had survived the night, but the sun rose over a forest he had yet to map, leaving his deck dangerously thin. The Confined Timberwolf was now his only hope for the food cards he needed to face the next day’s Location: Murky Swamp card.
