Dead Reset is an interactive horror adventure game released in 2025, notable for its use of Full Motion Video (FMV), where the story is told entirely through live-action footage and actors. Developed by Dark Rift Horror and published by Wales Interactive, the game is a gruesome blend of sci-fi horror and the time-loop genre, often drawing comparisons to B-movies and classic creature features like Alien.

The Plot and Premise

The game centers on Cole Mason, an amnesiac surgeon who wakes up trapped in a secluded, subterranean or underwater research facility. He is immediately thrown into a crisis: he is ordered by the facility’s staff to perform an emergency operation on a patient named Amanda to remove a monstrous, parasitic growth from her body.

The situation quickly devolves into chaos when the operation inevitably fails, and the alien creature bursts out, slaughtering everyone in the room. Cole’s story, however, does not end there. Upon his death, he finds himself violently shaken awake back in the exact same moment he started, realizing he is caught in a horrific time-loop (or "death-loop").

Gameplay and Choices

Dead Reset utilizes a classic choose-your-own-adventure mechanic. At critical points in the full-motion video sequences, the action will pause, giving the player a limited time to make a binary decision—for example, whether to comply with an order, grab a weapon, or try to run.

Crucially, death is not the end but a core mechanic. Many early choices lead to gruesome, over-the-top death scenes for Cole, which are often graphic and blood-soaked. However, each reset allows Cole to retain vital information from the previous loop. He can use this knowledge to alter his decisions, build or fracture alliances with the facility’s staff (including the director, security chief, and researcher), and slowly uncover the truth about the facility, the creature, and his own identity. The narrative is complex, with multiple branching paths and an in-game tracker for character relationships, all leading to four distinct endings.

By embracing the time-loop, players must master the sequence of events and the personalities of the crew to find the unique path that allows Cole to survive, escape the facility, and ultimately break the endless cycle of death and reset.
