Dome Keeper is a tense and addictive roguelite action-mining game developed by Bippinbits and published by Raw Fury. It successfully blends the frantic, wave-based defense of a tower defense game with the meditative risk-reward loop of resource mining. Players find themselves crash-landed on an alien planet, where their survival hinges on protecting their fragile glass dome from relentless alien assaults while simultaneously digging deep beneath the surface for vital resources.

The Two-Phase Gameplay Loop

The game is structured around a critical duality, where time management is the true enemy:

1. Mining Phase (The Lull): Between alien attacks, the player, controlling a small, jetpack-equipped character, must drill into the procedurally generated dirt beneath the dome. Resources like Iron, Cobalt, and Water are extracted and hauled back to the dome. The clock is constantly ticking until the next wave, forcing players to make instant decisions: Do I risk digging deeper for a bigger payload? Or should I return now to process what I have and repair the dome? The deeper you dig, the more valuable the resources, but the longer the trip back.

2. Defense Phase (The Onslaught): When the alarm sounds, the player must race back to the dome's control panel and manually operate its weapon (either a laser cannon or a sword, depending on the starting dome choice). Waves of shadowy alien monsters—flying, ground-based, and projectile-spitting—assault the dome's integrity. Defense requires fast target prioritization, as the dome's health, visually represented by cracking glass, is finite.

Upgrades and Progression

The resources collected during the mining phase are converted into crucial upgrades, which are the key to long-term survival in a roguelite format. Every run requires careful strategic investment:

• Dome Upgrades: Enhance the primary weapon (damage, speed, rotation), increase the dome's health, or provide unique defensive capabilities (like shields or damage-reduction).

• Keeper Upgrades: Improve the player character's efficiency by boosting drill power, increasing movement speed, or expanding the resource carrying capacity.

• Gadgets and Relics: Hidden deep underground are powerful ancient relics and gadgets (like automatic repair drones, resource converters, or mining pets) that provide unique advantages and often feature their own dedicated upgrade trees.

The primary objective in the default "Relic Hunt" mode is to dig deep enough to unearth a massive relic and transport it back to the dome to escape the planet. However, failure is part of the experience; resources and knowledge gained in one run contribute to a better strategy in the next, making Dome Keeper a compelling test of risk-assessment and tactical planning.
