Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong is the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed Metroidvania, Hollow Knight. Developed by the three-person Australian team, Team Cherry, the game moves the focus from the silent Knight to the agile, silk-wielding heroine, Hornet, in an entirely new and expansive kingdom.

A New Kingdom and Story

The story begins with Hornet, the Princess-Protector of Hallownest, being captured and transported to the distant, ruined kingdom of Pharloom. After escaping her silk-bound cage, she finds herself in the depths of this unfamiliar land. Her journey is an ascent—in contrast to the descent into Hallownest in the first game—as she embarks on a "deadly pilgrimage" to reach the shining citadel crowning the kingdom's peak.

Along the way, Hornet must unravel a complex mystery tied to her own lineage and the ancient secrets of Pharloom, which is afflicted by a new, silk-based affliction known as the Haunting. She'll encounter over 150 all-new enemies, find new allies, and discover the lore of this kingdom ruled by "silk and song."

Agile Combat and New Mechanics

Silksong builds upon the tight, precise platforming and combat of its predecessor, but filters it through Hornet's unique playstyle. She is significantly faster, more aggressive, and more nimble than the Knight.

Key gameplay features include:

• Lethal Acrobatic Action: Hornet wields her signature Needle and Thread weapon, enabling swift, acrobatic movements and devastating attacks. She can perform a quick, endless dash and can mantle ledges, drastically changing the pace of traversal and combat.

• Silk System: Instead of relying on Soul to cast spells, Hornet uses a Silk reservoir which is built up through combat. Silk can be used to perform quick, three-hit heals and to activate powerful Silk Skills.

• Crafting and Tools: A new crafting system allows players to gather materials dropped by enemies to create and upgrade an arsenal of Tools. These are equippable items (like bombs or traps) that function similarly to Charms but are consumed upon use and replenished with an in-game currency, offering more dynamic combat customization.

• Quests and Wishes: The game features a more pronounced Quest system, where Hornet can take on "Wishes" from Pharloom's downtrodden inhabitants, adding a branching, RPG-lite structure to the exploration.

With its hand-drawn 2D art, melancholy orchestral score by Christopher Larkin, and promise of over 40 epic boss battles, Hollow Knight: Silksong is poised to be an ambitious and challenging sequel that expands the beloved Metroidvania universe.
