SÆLIG (sometimes stylized as SAELIG), which translates from Old English as "blessed," "fortunate," or "happy," is a rich simulation, strategy, and business management game set in 9th-century England during the Dark Ages. It is an open-world medieval sandbox experience where the player’s goal is not a grand, world-saving quest, but the more grounded, yet equally challenging, task of founding a prosperous family dynasty and surviving the tumultuous era.

The game begins by creating a unique character and crafting their initial life story, which determines their starting skills and circumstances—you could start as a wealthy landowner or a beggar with nothing but a handful of coins. From this humble or privileged beginning, the entire journey is focused on the accumulation of wealth, influence, and family legacy.

Business and Economic Strategy

At its core, SÆLIG is a deep trading and management simulator. The world operates on a complex, dynamic economy where demand, supply, and prices constantly fluctuate. Players must choose a profession and build their household's wealth through various means:

• Production: Starting a business like a bakery, lumber mill, mine, or tannery. You must manage the input resources, oversee production, and sell the finished goods to the local market.

• Trade: Buying low and selling high across different towns, or setting up automated trading routes via horse carts.

• Resource Gathering: Engaging directly in activities like foraging, farming, fishing, or mining to generate starter income.

Success requires shrewd economic decisions, as the AI-controlled competitors are constantly vying for market dominance and property ownership, often leading to fierce, albeit economic, rivalries.

Life Simulation and Social Climbing

Beyond business, SÆLIG is a comprehensive life simulation. Your character ages, requires food and rest, and possesses a health bar that can be depleted by illness or injury. You must manage your character's social life and future:

• Relationships: Pursuing a spouse, raising children, and training heirs who will inherit your wealth and continue the dynasty when your current character eventually dies.

• Social & Political Power: Gaining reputation allows you to rise in the social hierarchy, eventually aspiring to powerful civic positions like Thegn (a local lord).

• The Dark Side: For those inclined, the game allows for criminal activities, including pickpocketing, theft, or even more nefarious plots to gain property and influence.
