Staffer Case: A Supernatural Mystery Adventure is a mystery visual novel and adventure game developed by Team Tetrapod that transports players to a fantastical version of 1960s London. The game establishes a unique premise: approximately 10% of the population are Staffers, humans who possess various supernatural abilities that complicate—and facilitate—the commission of crimes.

Players take on the role of Notrick ("Note"), a brilliant but non-powered detective who has just transferred to the Mana Affairs Division. This specialized department investigates murders where staff are involved. Notrick's value comes from his sharp human intuition and deductive reasoning, which serve as a balance to the chaos introduced by supernatural powers.

Gameplay: Deduction and Documents

The core gameplay loop is an engaging blend of reading, evidence collection, and logic-based deduction, heavily inspired by titles like Ace Attorney. The investigation is broken down into two major components:

1. Supernatural Evidence Gathering: Notrick relies entirely on his superpowered teammates to gather evidence. Each teammate has a distinct ability:

   • Thena (Colt): A human lie detector who can perceive human tremors and detect irregular heartbeats.

   • Bryan (Bowie): An analyst who can see and timestamp faint supernatural traces left at a crime scene.

   • Redfield (Estienne): An agent who can read the recent memories of inanimate objects by touch.

2. The Deduction Process: Once the supernatural clues are compiled into documents and testimonies, the player is tasked with piecing together the truth. This involves a minigame where players must arrange clues, spot logical contradictions between witness statements and physical evidence, and ultimately use the documents detailing the suspects' supernatural abilities to expose how a seemingly impossible crime was committed.

Narrative and Structure

The game consists of five main cases that escalate in complexity, each involving gruesome superpowered crimes, such as victims being vertically bisected or murders committed in a circus. The narrative is richly written and features compelling, distinct characters and unexpected twists.

Completing the first four cases with the correct "Truth Ending" is necessary to unlock the final, culminating fifth case, which explores the deeper truth lying at the heart of the Staffer phenomenon. The game also includes side stories and the standalone spin-off, Staffer Reborn, which explores themes of immortality and further expands the lore of the 1960s supernatural world.
