Stellar Commanders

Stellar Commanders is a fast-paced, real-time strategy (RTS) game developed by Blindflug Studios, the creators of First Strike. Initially released on Apple Arcade in 2019 and later on PC, the game is designed specifically for quick, intense matches, distilling the complex resource management of traditional RTS titles into a tense, seven-minute battle for planetary control.

Core Gameplay: Fast-Paced PvP

The game focuses on competitive 1 vs. 1 multiplayer battles fought over small, distant planets. The main goal in each match is either to destroy all of your opponent's claimed territory or to simply control more territory than your enemy when the seven-minute timer expires and the planet explodes.

• Iridium Resource: The sole resource driving the economy is Iridium, which stockpiles slowly over time. Players use Iridium to instantly purchase and deploy all units and defense systems. Managing this scarce resource—deciding whether to invest in defense, expansion, or a powerful attack—is the central strategic challenge.

• Preparation Phase: Each match begins with a brief, timed preparation phase where both players can freely build a starting assortment of units before the main conflict begins, requiring swift initial tactical choices.

• The Arsenal: Units fall into distinct categories:

  • Conquerors (Ground Units): Used to claim neutral territory or attack and conquer enemy-held land.

  • Attackers (Rockets): Missile units launched from a player's territory to destroy enemy tiles outright.

  • Defenders: Systems used to shoot down incoming enemy rockets.

  • Support Units: Structures that increase the rate of Iridium harvesting.

Factions and Card-Based Strategy

Stellar Commanders features three distinct major factions vying for control over Iridium sources, each offering a unique playstyle and unit roster:

1. United Coalition of the World (UCW): Focused on law and order, excelling with powerful conquering units.

2. Sons and Daughters of Barovia: A more aggressive faction with a large arsenal of explosive and poisonous weapons.

3. Jin Guo Empire: A technologically advanced, defensive faction that often utilizes stealth and automation.

The game layers a card-based strategy system onto its RTS core. Players choose a deck of units and abilities before the match, and these cards must be drawn and deployed strategically during the battle. This adds a level of unpredictability and forces players to adapt their strategy based on what cards they have in hand, making the fast-paced action highly tactical.

By combining the quick-draw, high-risk nature of card games with the territorial control of real-time strategy, Stellar Commanders provides a demanding, yet streamlined multiplayer experience.
