Sultan's Game is a narrative-driven simulation game and card-based RPG that plunges the player into a world inspired by One Thousand and One Nights, but steeped in darkness, intrigue, and morally crushing decisions. Developed by Double Cross, the game casts you as one of the Sultan's ministers, a pawn forced to participate in a cruel, week-by-week struggle for survival where the price of life may be the complete loss of your humanity.

The Game of Survival

The core mechanic revolves around a brutal countdown. At the start of each seven-day cycle, you are commanded by the tyrannical Sultan to draw one of four cursed cards, each representing one of his twisted demands:

• Carnality: Requires the pursuit of carnal pleasures and indulgence.

• Extravagance: Commands lavish spending and excessive displays of wealth.

• Conquer: Forces you into perilous adventures and expeditions.

• Bloodshed: Demands a human sacrifice or an act of murder.

You have a mere seven days to fulfill the card's challenge using your wit, resources, and influence—failure results in immediate execution. This high-stakes mechanic turns the game into a tense resource and time management challenge, where every action must be calculated to satisfy the Sultan while navigating the inevitable consequences.

Card Strategy and Resource Management

To survive, you utilize a strategic card-based system, deploying Ally, Resource, and Objective cards across an interactive map of the court and city. Success depends on accumulating key resources—wealth, intelligence, and equipment—and strategically allocating your limited time and personnel to missions. For example, fulfilling an Extravagance card might require using a high-value resource card at a certain city location, potentially spending the gold you needed for another objective.

However, the "game" is about much more than just breaking the card. Each required action has a ripple effect (the Butterfly Effect Storytelling), influencing the political landscape, character relationships, and your own moral standing. A simple act of murder to satisfy the Bloodshed card can cause your spouse to abandon you or an ally to plot revenge, forcing you to deal with betrayal and retribution in subsequent cycles.

A Web of Consequences

Sultan's Game is characterized by its dark, complex narrative and high degree of replayability. The challenges, while terrifying, often present opportunities to dispose of rivals, forge forbidden romances, or even plot regicide. The decision space is wide: you can choose to be a willing accomplice to the Sultan's whims, or secretly amass influence to overthrow his tyrannical rule, perhaps even summoning dark gods in the process.

With over 50 unique endings and the ability to unlock permanent perks and powerful allies using Fate Points earned from previous playthroughs, the game encourages repeated attempts with different strategies. Ultimately, Sultan's Game is a test of morality and cunning, where victory does not favor the saintly but the resourceful player who can make dreadful choices, manage the fallout, and secure their dark destiny.
