Windward Horizon, developed by Tasharen Entertainment, is a naval Action RPG that serves as the sequel to the popular 2015 indie title, Windward. It expands the original's core loop of sailing, trading, and combat into a more dynamic and expansive open-world experience. The game invites players to become a captain in a vast, procedurally generated ocean, offering a "chill" and open-ended adventure where the player defines their own path.

The Core Gameplay Loop

At its heart, Windward Horizon is a sandbox adventure on the high seas. Every new campaign generates a unique world, ensuring replayability and endless discovery. Players begin as unaffiliated captains and can choose to pursue any of the following activities:

• Trading: Move goods between various towns and provinces. The world is dynamic; supplying resources helps settlements grow, and successful trade builds faction reputation, which unlocks new quests and buffs.

• Questing: Take on jobs for the different factions that populate the world. Quests range from simple supply deliveries and escort missions to exciting naval battles, treasure hunts, and even deep-sea diving mini-games for shipwreck salvage.

• Naval Combat: Engage in arcade-style ship-to-ship battles. The combat system features separate armor mechanics for the two sides of your ship, requiring tactical maneuvering to protect your weakest points while exploiting the enemy's.

• Exploration: Simply set sail and enjoy the atmosphere, fish the seas, or dive for hidden treasures. The world is divided into diverse biomes, from icy regions to tropical archipelagos.

Deep RPG Customization

The game features extensive RPG systems to support various playstyles, rewarding specialization and build variety:

• Ship Customization: Players can outfit their vessels with various components like cannons, armor, and equipment. This customization is deep, allowing for builds like a heavy, ramming juggernaut, a swift, fire-focused sloop, or a specialized support vessel for co-op play.

• Talent Trees: Captains earn experience and invest points into three distinct talent trees: Offense, Defense, and Support. These choices dramatically define your role, allowing you to focus on high damage, superior tanking capabilities, or utility for group activities.

• Crew Management: Crew members can be recruited and allocated to various stations on the ship, providing bonuses and special abilities that complement the player's chosen specialization.

Seamless Multiplayer and Faction Dynamics

Windward Horizon was built with co-op in mind, supporting seamless online and LAN multiplayer with maps large enough to accommodate dozens of players. This allows friends to join forces to manage complex trade economies, tackle challenging pirate armadas, or participate in raids.
