ENDLESS Space 2

ENDLESS Space 2 (ES2) is a grand strategy, 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate) game developed by Amplitude Studios. Released in 2017, it is the direct sequel to ENDLESS Space and a central installment in the developer's extensive ENDLESS universe, building upon the deep lore, beautiful visual design, and asymmetrical gameplay that defines the series.

Asymmetrical Factions and Deep Lore

The game's most celebrated feature is its highly asymmetrical design. ES2 launches with eight distinct major factions (expanded significantly by DLC), each possessing unique mechanics, victory conditions, and deep narrative arcs:

• United Empire: A militaristic human faction focused on Dust and economic control.

• Cravers: A relentlessly aggressive insectoid species that relies on rapidly expanding and consuming planets, rendering them useless over time.

• Lumeris: A mercantile aquatic species that interacts with the galaxy almost entirely through the control of Dust and financial transactions.

• Vodyani: A post-corporeal faction that survives by harvesting the life-force of other species using giant Ark ships, creating mobile, temporary colonies.

This asymmetry ensures that playing each faction requires a completely different strategic mindset and approach to the technology tree and politics.

The Political and Narrative Layer

ES2 heavily integrates political governance and a powerful narrative component. Every four turns, elections are held, and the ruling political party determines which new galaxy-wide laws can be enacted, granting powerful bonuses or penalties. A key system is the Quest system, which presents players with narrative choices that affect their faction's story, grant unique rewards, and can unlock unique heroes or powerful technology.
