Lonestar is an American country music band formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1992. The group quickly rose to prominence in the mid-1990s and 2000s with a signature sound that blended traditional country instrumentation with strong pop sensibilities, allowing them crossover appeal.

The original and most recognized lineup featured lead vocalist Richie McDonald, guitarist Michael Britt, keyboardist Dean Sams, and drummer Keech Rainwater. They initially signed with BNA Records and achieved massive commercial success, charting over 20 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, with nine reaching number one.

Their biggest hit, "Amazed," was a groundbreaking crossover single in 1999, topping the country charts for eight weeks and achieving the rare distinction of reaching number one on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart. Other notable number-one hits include the neotraditional "No News" and the emotionally resonant ballads "I'm Already There" and "Mr. Mom."

Lonestar has sold over 10 million records worldwide, earning them numerous accolades, including the Country Music Association's Vocal Group of the Year award in 2001. Though the lineup has seen changes (including the brief early tenure of bassist John Rich, who later formed Big & Rich), Lonestar remains one of the most successful and enduring country groups of the modern era.

Lone Star (1996 Film)

Lone Star is a highly regarded 1996 American neo-Western mystery film written and directed by John Sayles. Set in the fictional South Texas border town of Frontera, the movie uses a complex murder investigation as a lens to explore deep-seated themes of racial history, contested memory, and the enduring power of myth versus truth.

The plot begins with the discovery of a skeleton, a rusted sheriff's badge, and a bullet at an old Army firing range. The current sheriff, Sam Deeds (Chris Cooper), takes on the case, suspecting the remains belong to the infamously corrupt, tyrannical former Sheriff Charlie Wade (Kris Kristofferson), who vanished decades earlier. Sam is forced to confront the possibility that his own recently deceased father, the revered former sheriff Buddy Deeds, may have been Wade's killer.

Through seamless transitions between past and present, the film weaves together the narratives of the town's diverse populations—Anglo, Tejano, and African American. Sam's investigation unearths uncomfortable truths about his father's less-than-heroic past and the interconnected histories of the community members, including a rekindled romance between Sam and his high school sweetheart, Pilar Gutierrez (Elizabeth Peña), a history teacher battling to teach a more inclusive version of the Alamo story.

Lone Star is praised for its intricate, layered narrative that deconstructs the concept of borders—not just geographic (the U.S.-Mexico border) but racial, generational, and moral—ultimately showing how the past remains an inseparable part of the present.
