Plot: The Whistleblower’s Tip

The game follows Miles Upshur, a freelance investigative journalist who receives an anonymous email exposing illegal and inhumane experiments taking place at Mount Massive Asylum in Colorado, a facility secretly operated by the notoriously unethical Murkoff Corporation.

Upon breaking into the asylum, Miles quickly finds the staff dead or mutilated and the facility overrun by deranged, homicidal patients known as "Variants." Stripped of any means of self-defense, his initial goal of getting a story quickly devolves into a desperate fight for survival and escape. Miles is relentlessly pursued by monstrous inmates, including the imposing, muscle-bound Chris Walker and the cannibalistic Twins. • Vulnerability: Miles cannot fight; he can only run, hide, and observe. This complete lack of offense heightens the feeling of helplessness and fear, forcing the player to rely solely on stealth and evasion.

• Night Vision Mechanic: Large sections of the asylum are plunged into complete darkness. The only way to navigate is by switching on the camera's night vision, which drains the limited battery supply. This mechanic creates immense tension—the player must constantly scavenge for scarce batteries while managing the risk of being left blind in the dark with a Variant nearby.

• Evasion and Stealth: Survival depends on utilizing the environment to hide, whether by sneaking behind obstacles, staying in the deep shadows, or diving into lockers and under beds. Conclusion and Legacy

Miles eventually learns the truth about the Walrider, which is controlled by a catatonic patient named Billy Hope. Miles manages to terminate Billy's life support, but just before dying, the Walrider entity possesses Miles, turning him into its new host. As Miles attempts to leave, he is gunned down by a Murkoff private military unit, only for the newly possessed Miles/Walrider to immediately slaughter the agents, ensuring Murkoff’s dark secret escapes the asylum with a new terrifying power.
