Roots of Pacha is a charming and inventive farming and life simulation game developed and published by Soda Den, a studio founded by two brothers. Released in 2023, the game distinguishes itself within the popular farming sim genre (often compared to Stardew Valley and Story of Seasons) by transplanting the familiar mechanics into the Stone Age.

The Core Premise: Civilization Building

The game begins with the player's nomadic clan, the Pachans, settling in a fertile, promised land under the spiritual guidance of their mother-goddess, Pacha. Unlike traditional farming sims where the player inherits a rundown farm, Roots of Pacha tasks the player with helping their entire clan evolve and lay the foundations of civilization.

The central focus is less on personal wealth and more on communal progression. Players contribute resources and discoveries to the clan, which sparks "Ideas" for technological and cultural advancements, such as:

• Farming: Inventing the hoe, tilling the earth, and domesticating wild grasses into reliable crops.

• Tools and Crafting: Developing the first tools like the axe, spear, and eventually metalworking and pottery.

• Culture: Inventing social structures like the calendar, family unions, and primitive festivals.

This "Idea" system provides a constant, communal sense of achievement, as the entire village visibly evolves from a simple settlement into a thriving, advanced Stone Age society.

Gameplay and Community

The core gameplay loop is familiar but features unique prehistoric twists:

• Farming and Gathering: Players gather wild seeds, herbs, and materials from three distinct biomes: the forest/mountain, the beach, and the savanna. As they harvest crops, they gain knowledge points that improve the quality and yield of future seeds.

• Animal Taming: Instead of buying animals from a ranch, players must befriend and tame wild animals like bison and mammoths using a delightful flute-playing minigame, eventually bringing them to the farm for resources or to be used as mounts.

• No Traditional Currency: The clan operates on a Contribution Points system instead of gold. Donating collected or produced goods earns points that are used to develop the communal "Ideas," reinforcing the theme of cooperation.

• Exploration: Beyond farming, players can utilize a unique fishing mechanic (tracking fish in the water) and explore a maze-like cave system full of mysteries and resources.

Multiplayer and Relationships

Roots of Pacha was designed from the ground up to support online co-op multiplayer for up to four players, allowing friends to farm, explore, and evolve the clan together. Furthermore, the game includes a deep social system where players can develop friendships, attend festivals, and pursue romantic relationships with clan members, eventually leading to a Union (marriage) and having children.
