Tavern Talk is a cozy, narrative-driven visual novel and simulation game developed by Gentle Troll Entertainment. Set in a charming, high-fantasy universe reminiscent of Dungeons & Dragons or classic tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs), the player takes on the role of the proprietor of a humble, often overlooked pub called The Wayfarer's Inn. Your primary job is to serve drinks, listen to rumors, and guide the destinies of the many adventurers and quest-seekers who pass through your door.

The Core Loop: Serve, Listen, and Advise

The gameplay is built around the daily rhythm of managing a fantasy tavern, focusing heavily on interaction and information gathering:

• Serving and Brewing: You must first satisfy your patrons by serving them the correct drinks. The game features a fun mini-game centered around brewing and mixing custom fantasy concoctions using various ingredients (like moon berries, enchanted moss, or dragon tears). Serving the right drink is key to unlocking deeper conversations and building trust.

• Information Gathering: As you listen to the adventurers’ stories, you collect crucial pieces of information—rumors about monsters, hidden locations, treasure maps, and plot points. These snippets are collected and stored in your Map or Logbook.

• Connecting the Dots: The game's narrative puzzle comes into play when you must strategically combine the collected rumors and clues to form a new, cohesive Quest. For instance, combining a rumor about a lost ancient temple with a rumor about a protective ward might yield a new quest to find the Warded Temple of the Forgotten King.

Influencing the Adventurers' Destiny

The ultimate goal is not just to run the pub but to act as a hidden facilitator, guiding the world's greatest (and often clumsy) heroes toward their epic destinies.

• Quest Assignment: Once you craft a new quest, you must decide which adventurers are best suited for the job. You can assign the quest to specific patrons based on their unique classes, skills, and personalities. Sending a nervous mage on a brute-force mission might not end well!

• Consequences and Outcomes: The adventures take place off-screen. The adventurers return days later, recounting their success or failure based on the quest you assigned and the advice you gave. Their outcomes influence their personal stories, their relationship with you, and the state of the world.

 Romance and Relationship Building

Like many visual novels, Tavern Talk features deep relationship mechanics.

• Character Development: The tavern attracts a large and diverse cast of recurring characters, including the stoic warrior, the shy wizard, and the mischievous rogue. Each has their own personal arcs, fears, and dreams.

• Romance Paths: By listening, giving personalized advice, and successfully guiding their quests, you can deepen your relationship with specific characters, potentially leading to a romance path with several eligible patrons.
