The End of the Sun

The End of the Sun is a first-person adventure and exploration game developed by The End of the Sun Team. The game stands out for its unique setting, deeply rooted in Slavic mythology and pagan rites, and its central mystery revolving around the distortion of time itself.

Set across five distinct, ancient villages in a vast, semi-open world, the game combines elements of environmental storytelling, non-linear exploration, and complex puzzle-solving.

Time Distortion and the Koshchey

The game casts the player as Ashter, a special Slavic shaman known as a Żerca (a traditional pagan priest). Ashter is tasked with solving the disappearance of a fellow Żerca and uncovering the mystery behind a devastating, sudden drought and famine that has plagued the land.

The central mechanic revolves around time distortion. Ashter discovers that the four elements of the world—Water, Earth, Fire, and Air—have been displaced in time by a powerful, ancient entity known as Koshchey the Immortal (a prominent villain in Slavic folklore). This entity has frozen the villages at different points in their cyclical history:

• One village is stuck in the vibrant Spring season.

• Another is frozen in the harshness of Winter.

• A third is trapped in the decay of Autumn.

The player must travel between these villages, understanding that actions taken in one seasonal timeline can have direct, often unexpected, consequences in the others, creating a delicate, multi-layered puzzle structure.

Exploration and Slavic Lore

The game utilizes a "walking simulator" approach to exploration, emphasizing interaction with the environment and observation over frantic action.

• Environmental Storytelling: Every building, artifact, and note tells a piece of the story. Ashter uses a ritualistic ability to perceive past events, allowing the player to witness the lives and deaths of the inhabitants of the villages and piece together the sequence of events leading to the disaster.

• Cultural Authenticity: The developers placed a strong emphasis on historical and mythological accuracy. The world is populated by creatures and spirits drawn directly from authentic Slavic beliefs, such as the Leshy (forest spirit), Wodnik (water spirit), and various household deities. The artifacts found and the rituals performed by Ashter are based on genuine Slavic pagan practices.

The overarching goal is to understand the nature of Koshchey's curse, restore the natural flow of the seasons, and bring balance back to the elements by solving the interwoven mysteries of the five villages.
