Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic is a complex and highly detailed city-builder and management simulation game developed by 3Division and published by Hooded Horse. After a long, successful period in Early Access, the game officially launched into version 1.0 on June 20, 2024. The game challenges players to build a prosperous Soviet-era republic from the ground up, starting from the 1960s, with a focus on planned economy, intense logistics, and citizen management.

Deep Logistics and Production Chains

The defining feature of Workers & Resources is its granular approach to every resource and process. Unlike simpler city builders, simply clicking to place a building is not enough. The game’s Realistic Mode enforces a complex simulation where:

• Construction: Every single material (bricks, steel, concrete, wood) needed for construction must be physically produced or imported, loaded onto appropriate vehicles (dump trucks, flatbeds, tankers), and delivered to the construction site by a Construction Office staffed by actual workers.

• Intricate Production Chains: Producing basic consumer goods requires long, interconnected chains. For instance, creating clothing requires fabric, which in turn requires a chemical plant (for synthetic fibers) or a crop farm (for cotton), all of which need electricity, water, and specialized labor transported by public transit.

• Transportation is King: The player must design a massive, intricate network of roads, buses, trolleybuses, trams, and trains to move both resources and citizens. Workers must travel from their apartments to bus stops, be transported to factories, and then walk to their precise workplace building. Inefficient routes lead to late workers and massive drops in productivity.

Citizen and Economic Management

The simulation extends beyond infrastructure to the lives of your citizens, who must be managed meticulously:

• Citizen Needs: Citizens have complex needs, including food, clothing, health, culture, and loyalty. Failure to provide amenities like shops, hospitals, cinemas, and schools within walking or transit distance severely impacts their happiness. Unhappy citizens will escape across the border.

• Economy and Currency: The republic operates using a dual currency system: Soviet Rubles (Eastern Bloc) and US Dollars (Western Bloc). Players must strategically produce goods (like steel, oil, or crops) to export to the global market to earn hard currency, which can then be used to import resources or vehicles that the republic cannot yet produce itself. Global prices fluctuate, adding a layer of economic peril.

• Education and Labor: Workers require appropriate education to staff high-tech industries, universities, and hospitals. A dedicated education pipeline must be established to train future engineers, doctors, and teachers.
