Previous Versions
Rescue Team: Attack of the Atom is a high-stakes, casual Time Management strategy game and the eighteenth installment in the long-running Rescue Team series from Alawar Entertainment. The game trades its usual natural disaster scenarios for a terrifying technological crisis, placing the fate of the entire planet in the hands of the player and their dedicated team of heroes.
The Global Crisis
The narrative of Attack of the Atom centers on a critical software bug that has compromised the systems of numerous nuclear power plants across the world, triggering cascading failures at multiple facilities. This unprecedented crisis presents a dual threat: an immediate risk of catastrophic meltdowns and the long-term danger of widespread radioactive contamination.
The player is put in command of the veteran Rescue Team, a familiar squad of skilled specialists, and tasked with leading the global response. The core mission is to uncover the full scope of the issue, prevent irreversible damage, and ultimately guide humanity toward a safer, greener future.
Time Management Gameplay
As a Time Management game, the gameplay is fast-paced and relies on strategic planning and rapid execution using simple mouse clicks. The game consists of 50 primary levels (with an additional 15 in the Collector's Edition bonus chapter), each presenting a unique disaster scenario that must be solved within a strict time limit to achieve the coveted three-star rating.
Key tasks in each level involve:
-
Disaster Mitigation: Racing against the clock to put out fires, clear debris, rescue trapped people and animals, and contain sources of radioactive contamination.
-
System Repair: Directing specialists to repair compromised nuclear systems and patch the critical software bug to stabilize the power plants.
-
Resource Management: Carefully gathering and managing materials (such as wood, food, and money) required to rebuild infrastructure, purchase necessary equipment upgrades, and manage logistics.
Building a Greener Future
Beyond simply containing the immediate nuclear threat, a significant thematic element of the game is the transition to a sustainable energy future. Players must work to replace outdated nuclear power sources with renewable energy infrastructure, constructing and upgrading eco-friendly innovations like wind turbines and solar plants to secure long-term stability.
The game also features a permanent progression system where players can upgrade equipment and level up their heroes across different playthroughs, making subsequent attempts at saving the world more efficient. Rescue Team: Attack of the Atom offers a challenging, satisfying experience for casual strategy fans who enjoy a well-balanced mix of resource collection, emergency response, and detailed mission objectives.
